The PrimitivesThis dream drifts steadily in time and place. There were no sharp breaks, but smooth transitions. Begin: I entered a place of business to pick up a number of (power supplies ?). The man at the counter was busy on the phone so I took a hand truck and headed for the back room wondering if he would object. He did not. I was lading the hand truck out on a low dock when a boy carrying two buckets with small rocks in them was passing. He was rather weak looking and set the buckets down. He asked me if I could carry them to where they were to go. I said I would and picked up the buckets, one in each hand. They were so light to me that I transferred both to one hand and walked around to the back of the building. There was a patch of just such small rocks there, so I presumed this was where they were to be dumped and spilled them out. The building faded from the dream about here, and the scenery became undulating and covered with short grass. I wandered down a hill a little where someone was doing something. On the way back I picked up a pick and mattock and threw it up closer to the pile of rocks. There were no buildings at all now, and the scene had drifted back to a more primitive time. It was night, and I was with a couple of other people (dressed in gray wool ?). We were following pathways marked by rows of little rocks so they could be seen at night with very little light. I took a wrong turn, though, and climbed a hill next to a steep drop. The drop was also marked with a long row of tiny rocks so I was in no danger of going over. At the top of the hill there was a steep drop drop down the other side. I knew there was a village of some other people down below, but I could not see any of it in the darkness. I commented to myself that we would be raiding it some day soon. I went down the hill and at the bottom slid down a short very steep bank to a depression where several other men were standing They were naked except for breach cloths and necklaces, and I was now dressed about the same way. (They wee carrying spears ?). Their bodies were smeared with a brick red substance and there were designs painted on them in white and blue, all very similar to each other. One man was explaining the painting of his design, a couple of square waves to his right side waist, becoming a couple of saw tooth waves on his stomach. He said the saw tooth part represented the lightning and the square parts represented (the power of the Gods ?). He pointed to the two lines on his chest and said they represented the "Parallel Prayer". He pointed to a horizontal line at his waist and called it by some (Catholic phrase in Spanish ?) (a prayer of some kind). I became overcome with emotion, almost to tears and said, "(Amwak ?)
never said a war prayer".
The name (Amwak ?) was the name of my teacher in the dream, then dead.
He had been a shaman or sorcerer. I don't remember the actual name except it
started with an "A" and was about that long. Awakening time was about
7:00am.
