The Black Maggots
There were scenes before the beginning of what I have recorded here, but they are too vague for me to even say if they pertained to the aliens, or what the settings were. They did all involve people.
Begin: I was outside with a number of people, both men and women, and there were some scenes in tunnels, but I do not know much about them. The main feature was the arrival of the black maggots. These were fat worm-like creatures about 100 feet long with a flat front fringed with short tentacles. They could move along at a moderate speed with an undulating motion, and were destroying any people and buildings they found. They were slow enough to be avoided if you were alert, and could be hid from easily enough. These had been set on the world by invaders from somewhere else. I had the impression the maggots were filled with some of the invaders themselves.
At one point a maggot was destroyed (along with a lot of people) in a small nuclear explosion, but this was far from where I was. In any case, the maggot activity slowed down.
I was in a room with at least one adult and three small children. The children faced me and regarded me with great disdain and hostility. They were intelligent far beyond their apparent age, and were children who had been possessed by the invaders, who could not take over adults. I spoke to them, then grasped one by the head and bent it back until his spine snapped. He dropped to the floor with blood flowing from his mouth.
I found at this point I had the power to destroy these creatures by a projection of energy propelled by my mind. There was something about their minds that was a very delicate network, easily overloaded. My special ability to project energy was enough to burn them out. I do not know if the bodies died or if they reverted to being undeveloped humans.
I knew I could not kill the aliens very quickly myself, and that they would find what was killing them and destroy me long before I could get them all, but I worked with some technical people to build a powerful amplifier to destroy them in bulk. This was apparently cobbled together from existing equipment because it was ready quickly. It used a dish antenna, probably a satellite TV dish, as a projector. I was somehow hooked into this machine so it could amplify my mental powers.
At low power I could also feel where the aliens were through this machine, and discovered there was a space ship in orbit containing many of them. We decided if we started killing these creatures on the Earth, scattered as they were, the ones in the ship would know and come down and cause great destruction. No problem. The machine was so powerful I burned out the entire space ship load first, then the maggots, then the children, all in a few minutes. A sweep at low power showed no more activity anywhere.
I wondered if the bodies of these creatures, which we had never seen but
which we could now cut from the maggots, were their real bodies or bodies
of another kind of creature they had taken over, just as they were taking
over children's bodies.
End.
Obviously this dream is not very original. Practically all the themes
have been used over and over by bad science fiction stories. I do not
remember any black maggots though - these may be original.
