The Refrigerator

Begin:   An Anglo anthropologist had come to the jungle in (South America?) to study the religious experiences of the local healers and shamans. With him he brought a white, one door refrigerator to make life in the jungle more bearable. Unfortunately, it wa a continuous frustration from failures of the generating plant, and possibly of the refrigerator itself. It, and the whole project, were soon abandoned out of frustration.

Second Scene:   The same refrigerator had fallen into the hands of a native man who was attempting to experience just the kind of religious transformation the anthropologist had come to study. The now nonfunctional and somewhat stained refrigerator was his prized possession. His efforts failed, and he moved on, abandoning the refrigerator to the weeds and vines.

Third Scene:   The refrigerator was now rust streaked and largely obscured by vines and the area around it was entirely overgrown. A passing woman stopped at this place to rest, and here experienced the enlightenment the one man had sought, and the anthropologist had sought to study. She received knowledge of certain herbs and plants and their uses, becoming a minor healer. She chose the place of her enlightenment as a place to perform her work, compound her potions, and chant her songs. The rust stained refrigerator peered over her shoulder from the vines like an inscriptionless stele from some long overgrown temple.

End.

This dream came at a time when I was experiencing some refrigerator problems, but mine were all two door models. There was no continuous flow of action through this dream, but discontinuous scenes from each of the three stages. I experienced all three principle characters both from within and by observation from without.
