IllusionsI was with quite a few other persons, all travelers of some sort. We had just entered some territory which appeared to be familiar, like home ground. The area was hilly and overgrown with familiar types of vegetation, and there was equipment about, and storage space (in buildings?). There was a pathway, probably with rails along the low side, going into a mine, before which tailings were piled. We examined this area with care, apparently somewhat surprised to be on familiar seeming ground. People started wandering around all over the place, and everything seemed to be in order on the hillside. I and a few others walked to the mine and were about to enter when we noticed one of the people nearby seemed a bit malformed, with a neck too long. He was immediately seized and taken back to the previously explored hillside. A careful re-examination of the reality of the scenery was made, whereupon I declared it was all an illusion, and kicked various things apart. Under this combined physical and mental onslaught, everything kicked crumbled and disappeared, including vegetation, equipment and buildings, until only rocky, gravelly desert remained. The captured person's head was removed from his body with a large knife, while several people held his arms, but he did not protest greatly. Scene Change . . . Time and Location. Apparently a satisfactory agreement had been worked out with the creatures who had created the illusions. A small town had been built on the land below the hills, with deciduous trees and wide roads. It is not entirely clear whether this had been done by means of illusion or by normal building methods, but I think it was done primarily by illusion. The weather was cool and clear. Everything, including the air, was very clean. Most of the buildings were two stories high and situated very close to the streets. I had the feeling I had just been in a vehicle, but I did not see any other vehicles on the streets. The feeling was not of a normal car, but of a small, light, open vehicle. The creature who's head had been cut off was still with us, except he had been more or less immobilized by the surgery. We took him to a second floor room with windows all around to fasten his head back on so he would be back to normal. This was possible by using semi-magical means, as the severed body was basically an illusion in the first place. He had remained cheerful throughout. End. When I originally recorded this dream, I made a note that the illusions were created from information drawn from our own minds as to how things should be. It was apparent, though, that the creatures who did this were for some reason unabble to perfectly adapt on of their own to pass without detection. |
