Nuclear Submarine
I was captain of a nuclear submarine which had just become badly damaged at the forward end. We were taking on water but still maintaining reasonable speed on the surface. I ordered the crew to abandon ship, and allowed it to flood and sink in deep water
I returned to the opening of this dream to try another approach. I ordered the submarine to turn to the left and ran it aground under the cliffs of a nearby shore. I felt this to be a bad decision because it left the ship exposed to capture and examination by enemies.
I returned again to the opening and tried the option of running full speed toward port before the ship could sink. The damage was too great, however, and the submarine had to be run aground in a navigable channel. Another bad option.
I retuned again to the opening scene and allowed the ship to go down as in the first passs.
Sailing Ship
As a young man, I was trying to sign aboard a wooden sailing merchantman, but the officers laughed at me because of my apparent age. I was aware of being the same person who was the submarine captain in the preceeding dream, and knew I had his navigational skills available to me, but I mentioned instead (quite reaonably) a previouls voyage under sail.
The officers laughed, and one asked, "How far out into the bay did you go?" I explained the voyage had been a Cape Horn passage, the hard way against the wind, and gave details demonstrating my grasp of navigation. I was promptly signed on as a junior officer by a suitably impressed captain.
