Death Ship

This dream opens in a naval seaport. I am standing on the land side pavement. Away to my left is a gray warship, a large destroyer in the style in use until the 1980s. Its bow was pointed to land and it was up against a pier on its starboard side. It was a long pier and the ship was fairly far from the land end. Just to my right was a much larger naval transport ship, aft end up close to where I was standing, probably against a pier on the side away from me.

Looking up at the transport ship, a dead and decaying crew member could be partially seen hanging out of a gun tub or other structure. I knew that the entire crew was dead from some disease. There was a gang plank to an opening in the stern, and a tall man in a business clothes walked down it, apparently from inspecting the inside. The disease was thought not very contagious at this time and to possibly have been food born.

Scene change:   This section was more a visualization than being present. It dealt with the quarantining of persons who may have been exposed to this disease. They were in a fairly large room, and when one of them appeared sick, all the others were moved to a different quarantine room. The sick person was then treated with antiviral medications. I don't know if they were effective.

Scene Change:   At this time the transport ship had been towed far out to sea, with its dead crew still on board. I was on another large ship, standing at a railing looking out at the transport, and saw some of the ship I was on only through peripheral vision. It may have been an aircraft carrier with the flight deck above me.

There were a couple small ships, possibly ocean going tugboats, on the opposite side of the transport. The ship I was on was hosing down the transport with aviation fuel, probably jet fuel (kerosine). As I watched, the fuel stream was cut off, and I saw a small burst of 20mm or 25mm autocanon rounds strike the superstructure, which set the ship on fire.

I have little detail after that, but I was aware that the ship burned for two days before it finally sank, going down still upright.
