Journalist

There is a lot missing from this one. My consciousness in this dream was as a female journalist, I think in her 40s. I was working in a small, rather isolated town.

All commerce into the town was controlled by a single family, the Hinkleys, or something close to that. Due to their control, everything cost a lot in the town. I was writing an article on this.

With the article made public, most of the town seemed to welcome it. I don't recall any comments by the Hinkley family.

I recall the towns pharmacist describing how he would periodically leave town and smuggle in supplies that he could sell for the normal prices, rather than the inflated prices after they passed through the hands of the Hinkleys.

Darkness

This was the sort of dream that comes up very infrequently. It is dark in the house, which may not be quite the house I actually live in. The light switches don't work, and I can barely see.

Usually there is a strong feeling of dread, but not so much this time, and the house was definitely the same as the one I live in. I recognized the lights wouldn't turn on, and went out to the entrance room. I got the key out of it's bowl and locked the door.

I then looked around, seeing if I could sense any presences that should not be there. I detected none.

On-Line Dating

I was in my kitchen standing near the refrigerator. There was another man in the kitchen and he brought up the subject of on-line dating. I told him that it hadn't worked out very well for me.

I recited a list of failures, all from my actual waking life. Most of them I had met for lunch and we got along well.

Three said we would get together as soon as they returned from their trip. Two came back from their trip with new boyfriends, "I met this really nice guy", and one no longer responded.

One I had a lot in common with. Many years ago we may have attended the same events at the Ojai Foundation. I met her in her home, and we got along well. We were to get together as soon as she was back from Peru. When she came back, she announced that world travel was far more important than a man could be, and resigned from dating.

One other, who I did not meet for lunch, but who seemed a very good prospect with a lot in common, left for Europe for months. We exchanged emails for a while, then lost touch.

Two ladies whom I had met and was communicating with signed off to provide long term care to friends or relatives who were dying.

One very nice lady I met, I toured the Huntington Gardens with. We met for one more time at my favorite sushi bar. When we left, she said she had met me there just to be sure - but she just didn't feel "the tingle" so she couldn't get into a relationship with me.

Well, I just don't give women "the tingle". The only ones who have lived with me were women who needed to get away from their mistakes, and were anxious to recover and go out an make more "tingly" mistakes.

All others had lived too far away or were not compatible to my needs, or rejected me out of hand because I didn't want to travel and escort them to fancy restaurants around the world - one very angrily.

Lady in the Kitchen

The setting for this dream was again in my own house, exactly as it is during my waking life.

I walked into the kitchen, and there stood a woman near the sink, like she intended to wash dishes, but seemed a little confused. She was about my age, with gray or graying hair, and of very normal build, just a bit shorter than I.

I asked her what she was doing here. She said, "What do you mean? Of course I'm here, I'm your wife". "Oh, well, lets see how wifely you are", I said, possibly out loud, or possibly just thought it. I walked up to her, gave here a light hug and kissed her in the manner of a couple that has been long married. She did not object.

Then she said, "This is just a dream, and I'm waking up now". After a few seconds she looked around, and sounding confused, she said, "No, this is not a dream! Where am I? Why am I here?"

I told her, "Well, we have a wife opening here, so lets just roll with it and see what works out". She was still looking pretty confused.

This was obviously not a normal reality situation, So I went out into the dining room and turned to the image of Lady Freya, up on her altar. I asked, "Lady Freya, are you involved in this?"

Well, I consider Freya the household Goddess, but I'm really more of a non-theist Pagan, and not real sensitive to other-worldly influences, so I only get a few vague hints I ascribe as coming from her. The only hint I got here was of faint amusement.

I returned to the kitchen, and escorted the lady out to the dining room and got her to sit down at the table. I thought, at this point, she might need a glass of wine, and asked her if she would like one. I didn't get a response, so I didn't give her one.

I looked up at the altar and asked her if she knew Lady Freya. She said "No".

Still holding the idea there was something other-worldly about this, I asked her if she recognized the name Hecate. Hecate is a very powerful goddess these days, especially among witches. She seemed to recognized the name, and that this situation may have something to do with Hecate, but she didn't know what.

I had all the pieces I needed, so I thought I'd quickly set up an altar to Hecate, light two candles, and sit the lady down in front of it to see if she could talk to Hecate herself.

Then her cell phone rang. Her purse was on the dining room table, so she got it out and answered. Two women were at the other end. One of them said, "How are you? We are really concerned about you".

She responded, "I came to in some man's kitchen. I'm really scared, and very confused".

One of the ladies asked, "Where are you". I answered, "(My Actual Address)". The lady responded, "That's real close, we'll be right over!".

At this point, I gently came awake, in my comfortable bed, with no wife lying beside me.

In the morning I presented Lady Freya a fresh cup of coffee as an offering for being in the dream.

Lady Freya The Freya Altar, exactly how it was in the dream, except the cup and incense holder have been moved before the photo was taken.

Goddess Hecate, with friends The Goddess Hecate (say "Hekatee"), right behind Zeus and Medusa, exactly as positioned in the dream. I did not actually see this set in the dream, but knew exactly where it was, with what, and what it looked like. I would have used that sculpture to set up the altar.
