Battling Alien Invasion
My memory of this dream begins with me wandering through a labarinthine industrial style building with very thick concrete walls, like a bunker. This is a bit different from quite a few recent dreams which included laborinthine buildings, but they have usually been hotels or convention centers filled with people.
Here, in some places, the thick walls were smashed partially to rubble, but in other places there were well lit rooms where people were working in office and communications type jobs. There were a couple of people with me, but their characteristics are not clear as they were not in view and didn't talk.
I got word from someone that the building was about to come under attack and we should get out. The people working didn't seem concerned, but perhaps they hadn't been told. I found a way out of the building, not difficult with much of it ruined (most of it was underground).
I exited to a green but rocky landscape. Some ways to my right, a small blue dome stuck up from the ground, and another about 150 feet farther. I could tell from the size and shape these were the radar domes of naval Phalanx Guns, partially concealed below ground level.
I aso saw, still quite far in the distance, four silver alien craft approaching, 20 or 30 feet above the ground and at some speed. They were of a domed saucer shape, but below the dome was a wide thick cylinder, making them shaped like mushrooms with very thick but very short stems. The stems were featurless, but the domes had windows and other markings. I was pretty sure they were hostile.
One of the Phalanx Guns fired. It was equipped not with a conventional multi-barreled gun, but with an extremely powerful laser canon**. It hit the craft on the left, from which some parts scattered, and it lost control. Then the next one to the right was hit and exploded into a great ball of black smoke. The explosion was so violent it badly damaged the craft next to it, which vered off into the ground. The final shot from the Phalanx Guns hit the fourth craft, causing it to impact the ground at an angle. Total engagement time was only seconds.
Now I could see soldiers advancing toward the wreckage, which was still quite far away. Also going in that direction was a large tank like vehicle painted in green camoflage patterns. Rather than a gun turret, it was fitted with a Phalanx system.
This impressed me as probably the turning point in a battle against an alien invasion.
After this, memory became unclear to me, but I did have an image of a large alien staging area many miles farther away than the crash site. This included a much larger saucer, obviously damaged because it rested at an angle with one edge embedded slightly into the ground. I presumed this saucer had been transferring equipment from a mother ship out in space.
I have no idea what the aliens looked like.
** The US Navy is currently working to refit its Phalanx Guns with laser canons. A significant reason for this is to reduce expense. 20 mm Phalanx rounds cost only 2018 US $30 each, but with a fire rate of 75 rounds per second, it adds up. Most bursts fire about 100 rounds with a burst time of less than 1-1/2 seconds. The Army also has Phalanx guns, mounted on huge 16 wheeled trucks.
Appendix
I do recall (a year later) images of soldiers assisting aliens from their damaged craft, providing medical materials, and transporting them back to the building, but this may be something I made up when semi-awake. Even with this I don't know quite what the aliens looked like, except they were pretty much of human size and proportions.
