Spice Mix

Mixed Spices - Baharat
Egypt / Lebanon / Syria / Jordan / Palestine / Israel / Turkey

Many Eastern Mediterranean recipes call for "Mixed Spices". Quite a number of formulas and variations are used, but here are a few very common mixes.


Note:   For any or all of these the whole spices are often dry roasted in an iron pan until aromatic to intensify flavors, as is done in India. Do them each separately because they become aromatic with different timing.

Lebanese Mixed Spice

  1. In a spice grinder grind all ingredients exceedingly fine and mix together.
  2. Makes 4 ounces. Sealed in an airtight jar away from heat and light it should be usable for 6 months or so.

Ginger powder

  1. In a spice grinder grind all ingredients exceedingly fine and mix together.
  2. Makes 7 ounces. Sealed in an airtight jar away from heat and light it should be usable for 6 months or so..

Egyptian Baharat
