The Pyramid

This was a very vivid and important dream, very well remembered. The exact date is unknown, but it was probably one of the last before the break in the list. I was continuously aware of this dream and rehearsed it several times when it occurred to me. It was not actually written down until April 2024, when it appeared again during semi-sleep. In this dream I was two separate people occupying one body.

Begin:   I was a young man from a fairly primitive village, similar to a farming village in the late Medieval. The terrain was varied, consisting of low plant cover and clumps of trees, climate cool temperate.

I was standing at the edge of a sort of stony desert that looked like a blast area. Far in the distance, almost out of sight, was a sort of rough, thick based spire. Legend was that it housed great wealth, but the village elders often warned against anyone entering that desert area. Apparently it was considered haunted.

I decided I was young and strong and could counter anything I met, and I didn't really believe in ghosts anyway. I set off into the desert area. It was a very long walk to the spire, but half way to it I was suddenly someone else - someone from a long past era. As this person, I turned and started back the way I came.

Exiting the desert I followed a path and walked through an area of low vegetation with trees to my right. Scattered through the area were tracked vehicles similar to very small tanks. They were very old and somewhat rusted, but toughly built and seemed to still be in near usable condition. I looked through the hatch of one of them.

I continued to the village. There I was addressed by a name that belonged to the person who's body I now controlled. I did not respond coherently, though the language spoken by the people was very close to my own. Village elders were called, and quickly assessed the situation. They assigned me to the home and care of the woman who was the wife of the person who's body I now inhabited.

Life in the village was pleasant enough, but I was very restless. I knew the elders didn't expect me to stay long. I finally left the village for parts unknown. After many hours of walking I encountered a large pyramid of polished black obsidian stone. It was a step pyramid, and there were inscriptions carved into the vertical sides of the stone blocks. Symbols, characters and numbers were followed by lists of names.

I stepped up onto the pyramid and started looking at the inscriptions. Finally I found a familiar symbol, and searched it's list for a name. I found the name I was looking for, and instantly I was the original owner of the body. I was confused, but knew the way back to the village.
End.

Clearly, this pyramid was a memorial to a very serious war, a war that was won by the people who haunted the desert blast area, but only after very serious losses.
