The Socialists

Begin:   In the opening sequence of this dream I was on a broad ledge overlooking a wide river with a great suspension bridge across it. (Manhattan Island ?) (The George Washington Bridge ?) I knew we were on an island with a large city built on it.

The immediate task was to set off a string of explosives to limit access to the island. I and another person fiddled with some gear, and soon there were explosions on the bridge, the center span crashing ponderously into the river as its supports were severed. I was aware similar events were taking place elsewhere around the city as a well organize band of (Socialist ?) revolutionaries took it over. This was perhaps done on a holiday or very early morning, as I do not recall a great number of people around in any of the scenes.

Scene change:   While the (Socialists ?) were now in control of the city, I wondered how secure it really was. In any case, evening had come and things were calm. I was thinking about the revolutionaries and wondering if I really agreed with what they wished to do. I was on the waterfront, on a wide wooden pier, and decided to take a small inflatable boat, conveniently at hand, and cross the river. This I started to do, but someone was aware of my activity, and I spent a while paddling around under the low pier pretending to be just messing around. I eventually came back to the pier, but some of my comrades were suspicious of my intentions.

As darkness began falling, the people with me left me with a woman, not outstandingly attractive, but pleasant, with the implication she would entertain me for the evening (a distraction ?). She seemed friendly enough, but I inserted some carefully planned comments into my conversation. Her automatic responses revealed she was a doctrinaire (Socialist ?), thus a plant.

I drugged her with a pill in her drink (of clobbered her, there seem to be a couple versions of this sequence). In any case, I was very careful not to kill her, and headed off across the river in the fog. I wondered if I would be shot if seen approaching the far bank, but figured I could get in unseen in the darkness and fog. My main concern was how to make sure I was going in the right direction.
End.

There was an earlier dream, quite long and vivid, but I remember only a scene in a small grocery store (in New Jersey ?) buying a can of soda, and even that incompletely. The scenes were very bright and clear during the dream though.
