The Crocodile

In this dream I was one of a community of little people, perhaps four feet high. This was my impression, I have nothing to measure it against. We were, however, nothing like Hobbits, being proportioned like normal humans with some difference in facial structure. All measurements I give in this dream are from the prospective of this size. In other words, a foot would be the same proportion as a foot is to us, therefor much smaller in absolute measurement. The pet in this dream translated as (cockroach ?), but was not a cockroach, being quite round rather than flat and elongated. I presume, then, it was something for which we have no name, and that was the closest the translation got. I will call this critter "Pet" in this listing. "Pet" was about 8 inches long.

Begin:   I was within a very large building, a huge complex of rather small rooms and hallways. I opened a door to the outside and stepped out. Unfortunately "Pet" sneaked out too. I was not too concerned, but then he took off and flew to a wire above a large rectangular pool and perched there. I realized I had forgotten he could fly, as there was little opportunity for that indoors.

I called to "Pet" several times to get him to fly back down, but he wouldn't budge. I knew it was very dangerous outside and wanted him safe. I was particularly worried about the pool, which was very overgrown with water plants and reeds of various kinds. To prove the danger to him, in hope he would get scared and come down, or at least be wary, I threw a rock at a submerged object in the pond. this proved to be a crocodile of vast size who heaved his head out of the water. He sank back under the water, and I threw a couple more rocks at him. He got mad and turned toward me and heaved himself out, pouring water and trailing weeds. He was immense, about twenty feet long at least, and quite upset.

I quickly stepped back through the door into a long hall the doorway was in the side of and set the lock. I then went down the hall a bit and entered another doorway which opened on stairs going up. As I closed and latched this door, I heard a noise I interpreted as the crocodile breaking through the outside door. I went to a higher level and stepped down into a room where there were several others of the little people. One was a woman sitting at an old fashioned type switchboard. Two others were men. There may have been more, but I don't remember them. I spoke to one saying, "I think the crocodile has broken through the door into the outer hall. I was not worried about him going much farther, but I was afraid someone might go into the hall not realizing he was there and get eaten.

The man I spoke to replied, "Well, we'll have to get (Sir Guy ?) here to use one of his famous balls on him". The indicated person was present, and hefted a round leather or cloth sack about five inches in diameter, tied at the top. I knew it contained an explosive. He seemed quite proud of the device and set off to take care of the crocodile. At this point I began to wake up, and wondered if the switch board here was sophisticated enough to have a page to warn people away from the outer hall.
End.
