The PT Boat

This is the second of two dreams (#64,#65), and occurred some time after 3:00am, The dream was recorded 2 days later. helped by my notes.

Begin:   I was sailing on the open sea with a good wind in a boat that I had designed in my waking life, but never built. It was based on the same mainsail as the boat I designed and built before it, but with a topmast and club topsail over it, and two staysails rather than one. The hull of this boat was longer and much faster than its predecessor. There was at least one other boat nearby, of conventional design, and the two boats were going about the same speed. It was my intention to change sails for the present course to increase speed, and the two people with me were getting a larger one ready.

Scene Change:   I was with a crew on a military or ex-military boat similar to a PT boat. We were concerned with a chart and with some regulations, and were headed toward a large aircraft carrier that was listing heavily and being abandoned. It was no longer in military service, having been taken over by a mottly crew. There had apparently been a war, and everything was a shambles.

Scene Change:   We were coming into harbor or up a large river with the PT boat, going quite fast and leaving a long white wake. There was a long suspension bridge with the middle span blown out that we passed under on our way.

Possible time lapse (days?):   The PT boat was docking and I stepped off to the dock, or was already there, and watched it pull into place to be tied up. It shut its engine down without anyone touching the throttle. I told some of the crew, "It shut itself down without anyone touching it, what's going on. That isn't normal". The crew people looked at me and did not answer, they went back about their business. I developed a concept the boat and the crew were now controlled by a big brain in a box that had been brought from the aircraft carrier. I felt it must be destroyed.

Scene Change:   I was driving a car, quite fast, in a hilly area where the road had a number of curves and switchbacks. There was a white steel railing on the downhill side at the curves. The brain was in its box in the back seat and I was partially under its control. I sped up with the intent of crashing through the railing and over the side on a curve to destroy it. I almost picked the wrong curve, the slope beyond the curve being insufficiently steep, but I took the next one, crashing through, hoping the impact would be enough to destroy the brain.

I had a brief vision of sliding down a grassy slope in a disembodied condition, feeling myself to be sort of spherical, about a foot in diameter. The next thing I remember seeing was a small tree with three pairs of white doves at three levels, a pair very low, a pair on a branch halfway up the trunk, and a pair higher, the pairs being of various sizes. They were not heavenly doves, the top pair decided it was mating time and went about their business in the usual way.

Scene shift ... to previous scene for alternate ending:   I was held captive on the docks by the crew of the PT boat. One of the crew placed a ring cut from a sheet of paper around my neck, soaked with lighter fluid or some such highly flammable liquid, and lit it. This was to cause my concentration to falter so the brain could take over my mind. I maintained my concentration, ignoring the flames, and when it opened the bridge, I crossed my consciousness over to make a slashing attack into its psychic inner workings, doing as much damage as possible to weaken it before I lost the element of surprise. It weakened, and fortunately did not recover quickly enough to have the crew kill me in time to save itself.

End.

While cleaning up the text for this dream, scenes appeared to me taking place in and about a house roughly identical to the little house I lived in on La Tuna Canyon Road. Just scenes, so I do not know the action of how it may be related to this dream.
