Raccoons

Sometime during the night a raccoon started making noise in one of eucalyptus trees, thrashing and yowling for quite some time. Raccoons are rare here (distressingly common in later years). I have observed them only once before about a month ago, so things are not particularly secure against them, especially the dove shack.

I was still quite asleep and did not wish to wake up, get up, and do something about the problem. On the other hand, it was necessary for me to know if there was any trouble. For this reason I spent a considerable time asleep, but maintaining just enough consciousness to listen to the raccoon. During this period I had one of my SuperCalc dreams. This one involved inserting lines in a computer accounting spreadsheet to allow raccoons to be entered into calculations.

Similarly, in a dream of 1-16-1983 I was making up multi-level computer spreadsheets to calculate and keep accounting of things which can not be kept account of in the waking world, emotional things.
