The Bribe

I am including this fragment because of its similarity to another incident involving a police officer (#47). It must be noted that I had not had any actual dealings with a police officer for several years before these dreams, and in no case have I been solicited for a bribe or had evidence planted by an officer. Aside from traffic violations, my only experience with police officers was the Officer Phillips case (Pending writeup).

There had been a long, rambling sequence dealing with automobiles. I am not sure if any of them were ones I have actually owned, although the 1948 MG may have been involved. In any case, nothing is remembered except this short sequence.

Fade-in:   In a large parking garage underneath a building, perhaps while doing some work to a car, I was approached by a police officer who expressed the intent of giving me a ticket for some violation. During the proceedings, he set down and opened either his ticket or regulation book and turned his back. Set across the book was a $20 bill, which I knew I was expected to match. I wondered if I should do this, which would save some trouble, but which went against my principles. As I wondered what to do I looked through my wallet to see if I actually had that much money. What was in there was mostly in ones. I could have probably gotten close to $20, but I woke up before determining which course to take.

End.

$20 was still significant money in 1982.
