The Dragon

There were many dream sequences this night, but only one and part of another were remembered. The partial sequence was the earlier, and was of the labyrinthine building type. I was being searched for by a number of persons, but was relatively untroubled, evading them quite easily in so large a structure. My feeling was that I had entered the building and killed someone in a very deliberate manner, and was being sought by friends of the deceased.

The second remembered sequence was far more unusual.

Begin:   I was in a great labyrinth of caves and tunnels deep underground. The setting was reminiscent of the Mines of Moria section of Lord of the Rings. There was fire, rushing water, thick black vapor in rolling clouds, and a feeling of malignant things moving about in the darkness. Two clean cut heros of the Tolkien kind, one short and the other tall, both dressed in white, had gotten themselves into a jam of a terminal sort. They were stranded on a shelf of what had been the cavern floor before it had split into a great chasm. A sheer smooth wall was behind them, and the immeasurably deep chasm was before them, cutting them off all around. It was too wide to jump, and there was fire below with great clouds of black vapor rolling out.

A huge, horrifying, dull black dragon-like monster about 20 feet high, and who know how long, slipped out of the darkness. With long claws, great white teeth, glowing eyes and iron hard scales, it moved through the rolling vapors, eyeing the two heros. I was the dragon.

The two stranded adventurers watched me with horrified resignation as I moved around their ledge. They could not possibly escape, but I was so large I could reach them easily. I moved a ways back and stretched out a great clawed arm. I sent a stream of invisible power down my arm, projecting it into a cloud of black vapor rising from below. My power congealed the vapors as solid as stone, wedging them into the chasm. The two looked at me in bewilderment for a moment, and then escaped across this new bridge. I watched them disappear into the darkness, thinking, "Let those narrow minded little bastards try to figure this one out".
End.

My only emotions here were satisfaction at the magnificence of my power, and satisfaction at how confusing my actions would seem to the escapees. It felt sort of like shaking a couple of beetles out of a shoe box rather than just letting them stay there and dry out. I learned something of the feel of power from this dream that I have not forgotten.
