Coding Chaos

At the first remembered part of this dream, I was trying to code some whirling flowers into several places within a business program I'd been working on. These were titled "Dancing Matilda", with the refrain from Australia's Waltzing Matilda** going on in my head. Things were very confused and not going well and the code was not compiling successfully. This is not surprising, as the awake time program is entirely text and doesn't support images, never mind video. It was absurd to have whirling flowers in a business program anyway.

I woke up. This dream was so vivid in my mind, I wondered if I'd messed up the program in my sleep. I went to the machinery room and did a compile, and it compiled fine. I loaded the program and checked its function. To my surprise, records from the main database were scrambled on the screen - something had changed in my data definitions, and it shouldn't have. I didn't have a clue what had changed, so couldn't fix it directly. I simply re-did the conversion from the old database and all was well. This took all of two minutes to do and check. I went back to bed.

I had a little trouble getting back to sleep, and when I did, I had another dream just like the first one, but this time I was trying to insert a recipe into the program. I don't remember what the recipe was for, perhaps soup or stew. Got back to sleep again, and there were no more remembered dreams from this night.

**   Waltzing Matilda is Australia's unofficial national anthem - and it has nothing to do with flowers or dancing. It is about an itinerant laborer slogging his way to a new job. The slog is the "waltz", and "Matildia" is the swag bundle on his back. The phrase "Waltzing Matilda" is first known from about 1880.
