Grain Harvest

This entry regards a dream from a weeks or more ago. It was poorly remembered at the time, but one thing is clear. We were dealing with issues of harvesting and processing grains, possibly wheat or barley. We were viewing grains, I think under magnification, and in an "as harvested" condition. I was given two important words regarding grain. One of those words I failed to remember accurately, even though I tried, but the other, "blast" stayed with me, and I intended to look it up.

Today, reading The Professor and the Madman (about the creation of the Oxford English Dictionary) I came across the word "blast" in an agricultural context, (chapter 8, Annulated, Art, Brick-Tea, Buckwheat). It was specifically in regard to grains, the word coming from Gervase Markham's 1616 book the Country Farme.

I finally looked it up. Blast is a very serious fungal disease affecting particularly wheat, but other grains as well. It is serious in South America and Bangladesh, but not so significant in North America. I am certain I had never encountered the word "blast" in this context before this dream. I regret I was unable to remember the other word, which was new to me, and may have been equally valid.
